Celebrate the Holiday Season at the Kennedy Center

Sunday November 4, 2007

Spending the holidays in Washington, DC is a real treat and the performances at the Kennedy Center reflect the spirit of the season. If you’re in the District during the week of December 13th-December 18th, consider going by yourself or taking your family to see the American Ballet dance Tchaikovsky’s time honored classic, The Nutcracker. Tickets range from $47 to $145.

Or consider getting into the holiday mood by taking in a Happy Holiday Concert performed by the NSO Pops and conducted by Marvin Hamlisch Dec 13th-Dec 16th. This is a concert that the whole family will enjoy and a special visit from the man in red is sure to leave the youngest audience members dancing with sugar plums when they nod off to bed. Tickets range from $20 to $85.

If you do decide to attend a performance, and I hope that you do, parking is expensive--$15--so instead, I suggest you cab it or consider using the Metro. From the Foggy Bottom Station, which is the closest metro stop to the Kennedy Center, there is a free shuttle service between the station and the center. It runs about every 15 minutes starting at 9:45 a.m. with the last shuttle at midnight during the week. On Saturdays the shuttle service starts at 10 a.m. and ends at midnight, and on Sundays it runs from noon to midnight.
