The 2008 National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The 2008 participants promise to be as exciting as ever. Appearances at this year’s parade include Miss America 2008, Kirsten Haglund of Michigan who will be dazzle the crowd with a live vocal performance and Sesame Street’s Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster, Grover, Rosita and the furry red favorite—Elmo; big balloons; taiko drummers; the US and Japan Cherry Blossom Queens; clowns; antique cars and much more.

There are currently 11 marching bands listed on the National Cherry Blossom Festival website as participants in this year’s parade. They are as follows:

  • Dunbar High School Marching Band - Washington, DC
  • Ballou High School Marching Band - Washington, DC
  • Sparkman High School Marching Band - Harvest, AL
  • Beckman High School Patriot Marching Band - Irvine, CA
  • Lowndes High School Georgia Bridgeman - Valdosta, GA
  • Acadiana High School Band - Lafayette, LA
  • Acton-Boxborough Regional High School Marching Colonials - Acton, MA
  • Roaring Bengals Marching Band / James Herbert Blake High School - Silver Spring, MD
  • Chartiers Valley High School Showband - Bridgeville, PA
  • The Band of Blue, Colleton County High School - Walterboro, SC
  • Timpview High School Marching Band - Provo, UT
  • Virginia Tech, Hightie Tighties - Blacksburg, VA

It is not too late to get tickets for grandstand seating, but hurry because they will go quickly.
