Spotlight: Mayflower Hotel
The Mayflower Hotel is often called the "Grand Dame" of Connecticut Avenue. Built in 1925, The Mayflower was considered the ultimate in luxury and beauty, and this is still true today. A single room back then went for $5 a day. The rates, of course, have increased considerably since, but it is well worth it. Presidents, movie stars and the rich and famous have dined and stayed at this place of elegance. Most recently NY Governor Eliot Spitzer's stay is placing this hotel in the headlines, but with its beautiful murals, chandeliers, and incredible dining experience, elegant rooms, it is no wonder that it was a favorite of Harry Truman. This is a centrally located hotel--with wonderful accommodations if you are in town for the White House Easter Egg Roll or The National Cherry Blossom Festival.
