Roosevelt Island and Fall Foliage

Theodore Roosevelt Island in Washington, DC is definitely off the beaten path of the typical DC tourist, but it is also a memorial you will be glad to have taken the time to visit. With 2.5 miles of hiking trails surrounded by lots of foliage, it is also a great place--and not too far away--to catch a glimpse of autumn's beautiful display of red, gold and brown as the leaves change color. And if you rent some bikes to get there, which I highly recommend, it is also a very green way to see the sights along the Mount Vernon bike trail.
