Shakespeare Theatre Company’s (STC) annual Shakespeare Free For All, going on its 19th year, offers free preformances and is one of the many treasured traditions that visitors and the local community can enjoy as you cap off the summer. Each summer, Shakespeare Theatre Company presents a play from the previous year with free admission. This year, there will be 22 free performances of Shakespeare’s comedy, The Taming of the Shrew.
By offering free performances, the Shakespeare Theatre Company is able to reach a large and diverse audience, many whom may not have the means to see such a production. The setting is such that parents with young children and babies can feel comfortable bringing their kiddos knowing that if the child gets antsy, mom or dad can take the little one out to the lobby and watch the show on a monitor conveniently located next to the bar.
Previously held at Carter Barron Ampitheatre, the production has moved into climate-controlled, mosquito-free Sidney Harman Hall. The new venue is also Metro accessible. For those who want to keep their pre-show picnic tradition alive, space is available on the lawn of the National Building Museum.
