A Guide to the Dupont Circle Neighborhood in Washington, DC

From , former About.com Guide

Dupont Circle gets its name from the traffic circle, dubbed Dupont Circle, that is the center of this popular DC neighborhood. Dupont Circle is filled with historic homes and embassies. Once brimming over with mansions that belonged to DC's elite, Dupont still has that same wealthy atmosphere, but many of these homes have been turned into embassies and row houses. Popular landmarks include Heurich House, also known as the Brewmaster's Castle, the Textile Museum and the Walsh-McLean House is home to the Indonesian embassy. Dupont Circle is also a haven for great dining and shopping and small private art galleries. Politics and Prose is one of several unique bookstores visitors to Dupont will not want to miss.
