For those of us pushing 40, it may seem near impossible to believe that Sesame Street blew out its own 40 candles on November 10. After all, Sesame Street is the fountain of youth in TV land--eternally young where Elmo is always three-and-a-half and letters and numbers never change, they just get hipper.

As the show has grown-up, Sesame Street has constructed a super highway that connects children from all cultures and eco-social backgrounds. And to celebrate 40 years of serving as an educational and developmental GPS for kids three to five-years-old, Sesame Street is treating visitors to Washington, DC’s Union Station with "A Photo Exhibit - Sesame Street - The Longest Street in the World".

From November 10-30, 2009 see photographs of children around the world interacting with Muppets from locally-produced coproductions of Sesame Street. The exhibit is organized around three critical areas of Sesame's international work -- literacy, girls' education, and global health -- and features images from India, South Africa, Indonesia, Egypt, Mexico, and the United States. These photos demonstrate the impact of Sesame Street around the world and present a unique look at the cultural essence of these programs.
