Dumbarton Oaks Museum & Gardens

By , About.com Guide

Dumbarton Oaks (1703 32nd St, NW at R St, 202-339-6401) is located in stylish Georgetown. The 53-acre estate was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Woods Bliss in 1920. In 1940 the Bliss family gave the house, gardens and collections to Harvard University. Today it functions as a research institute for Byzantine studies. The gardens are breath-taking in the spring and summer and well worth the visit.

The museum and shop are open Tuesday-Sunday, 2-5 p.m. and the gardens are open Tuesday-Sunday 2-6 p.m.

The closest Metro Stop is the Dupont Circle station.
