US Botanic Garden in Washington, DC

From , former About.com Guide

The US Botanic Garden in Washington, DC is the nation’s garden. Located on the west side of the US Capitol the Washington, DC's US Botanic Garden is often thought of as paradise in the middle of the city. Part of the National Mall, the garden is under the care of the Architect of the Capitol.

The Garden reopened its doors in 2001 after being closed for several years for renovations. Today visitors are treated to some of the most fantastic flowers, trees and plant life. The Garden Court with its fountains, arching trees and fragrant flowers serves as the centerpiece of the gigantic greenhouse.

The Children’s Garden is a mother’s bff. Children can play with water, dig in garden beds, water the plants, and spend time in the fresh air. The jungle and the orchid garden are also must sees. When the weather is nice, pack a lunch and eat al fresco at tables with umbrellas.
