Washington, DC has so many festivals and happenings during the month of June, you won’t want to miss out. So mark your calendar and get ready to celebrate summer in June in Washington, DC.

  • Artomatic. 55 M Street, SE, Washington, DC 20003. May 29, 2009- July 5, 2009. Fri-Sat: Noon-1 a.m.; Sun, Wed, Thu: Noon-10 p.m. This is a month-long art festival in DC that is free to the general public. The event features nine floors of visual and installation art, theater performances, dance and comedy, three music stages, street performances such as fire dancing and drum troupes, and a film screening theater.

  • Duke Ellington Jazz Festival. The Duke Ellington Jazz festival takes place June 5-15, 2009. Throughout Washington, DC visitors can enjoy jazz performances, including several on the National Mall.

  • Free Concerts at the US Navy Memorial. Free summer concerts in Washington, DC are one of the many pluses to visiting the District during this sunny season. Every Tuesday night in the summer the U.S. Navy Memorial holds concerts outside on the Granite Sea at 701 Pennsylvania Ave, NW at 8 p.m. This year's schedule starts on June 2, 2009 and ends on August 31, 2009.

  • Free Outdoor Movies. Crystal City 2009 Annual Film Festival (May 4, 2009-September 21, 2009)and NoMa 2009, which runs from June 10, 2009-July 29, 2009, are two free summer outdoor movie festivals that take place during the summer.

  • Food & Wine Festival at National Harbor. June 6-7, 2009. This weekend festival brings together some of Washington, DC’s brightest stars on the culinary scene. From Good Stuff Eatery’s Spike Mendelsohn to former White House Chef Walter Scheib to Washington Post’s Bonnie Benwick, Deputy Editor and Recipe Editor of the Food Section—just to name a few—this is an opportunity to sample wonderful foods and wines. Tickets range in price from $15-$65.

  • Dupont-Kalorama Museum Walk. June 6-7, 2009. Museum Walk Weekend is held annually on the first full weekend in June. On Saturday, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and on Sunday, from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m., celebrate the art, history and culture of two historic Washington, DC neighborhoods and visit the ten DKMC museums featuring free admission and special activities for all ages.

  • Kids Restaurant Week. June 13-21, 2009. Washington DC will launch its first ever Kids Restaurant Week this June with a week of kid-friendly cuisine and fixed-price menus at some of DC’s most popular restaurants. Adults will pay $29 and kids ages 11 and under will pay their age. Participating restaurants will feature early dinner seating from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Eastern Market and Miriam’s Kitchen.

  • Alexandria Waterfront Festival. June 20-21, 2009. This benefits the Red Cross and offer music, food, & fun for the whole family. Admission is $10 per person, $15 at the gate. Two kids are admitted free with each paying adult, each additional child is $5. Amusement rides include the ever-popular Ferris wheel, the carousel, the Dizzy Dragon and much more. And the festival wraps up with fireworks.

  • Smithsonian Folklife Festival. June 24-June 28 and July 1-5, 2009. The festival celebrates cultures and their traditions from around the world. It is held outdoors on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., between the Smithsonian museums. There is no admission charge. Open daily 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Evening events 5:30 p.m.

  • Grand Reopening of Eastern Market. June 26, 2009. Located at 225 7th Street, Southeast, Washington, DC. It is 7 blocks west of the Capitol, 1 block north of the Eastern Market MetroRail Station and Pennsylvania Avenue in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, this is DC’s oldest Farmer’s Market.

  • National Capital Barbecue Battle. June 27-28, 2009. This event takes place on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW between 9th & 14th Sts, and if you love BBQ, you want to miss the mouthwatering pulled pork, beef brisket and all the trimmings this festival serves up.

  • DC Caribbean Carnival. June 27-28, 2009. The bands and the parade make this a fun event for the whole family. The parade will be staged along the Georgia Avenue corridor on Saturday, June 27, 2009 , and will commence at Missouri Avenue at 11:00 a.m. and terminate at the international marketplace at "DE SAVANNAH”.

  • AT & T National Golf Tournament. June 29 - July 5, 2009. The 2009 AT&T National will once again be held at Congressional Country Club over the 4th of July holiday. Tickets are on sale now.
