The Annual March for Life, a peaceful protest of the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, will take place on Tuesday, January 22, 2008. The Rally begins at 12:00 noon and takes place on the Mall, after which the pro-life group marches to the steps of the Supreme Court.

In the past President Bush has phoned in to the March and has been invited to do so this year as well. Other rally speakers from past marches have included former presidential candidates US Senator Sam Brownback (R-Kan) and US Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA).

There is generally an endless parade of marchers so if you are visiting the District during this time and want to miss the crowds you should avoid Capitol Hill all together from about 11:30 a.m. to about 5:00 p.m. that day.

In the evening the March for Life Fund is sponsoring the Rose Dinner, at the Hyatt-Regency Hotel. Tickets are $75, and speakers for this 2008 event include Bella star, Eduardo Veastegui, U.S. Representative Paul Broun (R—GA) and Raymond Arroyo of EWTN. If you want to purchase tickets you can do so at www.marchforlife.org.

Other pro-life events around our nation’s capital include:

  • An Annual March Vigil Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on Jan. 21th at 7 p.m., with Cardinal Justin Rigali of Philadelphia, chairman of the U.S. Bishops Committee on Pro-Life Activities.
  • The Archdiocese of Washington is sponsoring 2008 Rally for Life and Youth Rally at the Verizon Center, 601 F St, NW, Washington, DC 20004. Doors open at 7:00 a.m. Confessions will be heard; popular Catholic recording artists will be on hand and the mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. Admission is free but seating is not guaranteed. Overflow crowds can attend Mass at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle.
