Oktoberfest 2009 in Washington, DC offers drink, music and dance for the the whole family to enjoy, as well as an opportunity to break out the Lederhosen or whatever your favorite German gear might be. With its many Oktoberfest celebrations throughout the DC metro area, Washington, DC is a great place to celebrate this annual event and all the fun that comes with it. Here is a sampling of some of the events in and around the city:

  • Oktoberfest at Fort Meade September 23-27, 2009. Fort Meade Pavilion, Llewellyn Ave. Fort Meade, Maryland. Oktoberfest at Fort Meade celebrates with the traditional keg tapping ceremony, culinary demonstrations, traditional German bands and folk dancers, a Standort Komadant competition and a Nascar simulator. Admission is free. Attendees pay for food, beverages & carnival events.

  • Das Best Oktoberfest at National Harbor September 26, 2009, noon to 8 p.m. Brats, Bands & Beer are the highlights of this outdoor festival (137 National Plaza National Harbor, MD 20745). Over 100 German beers, German foods, a beer belly contest, live music, and much more. Admission: $25, $20 for a designated driver, children ages 12 and under are free.

  • Frederick Oktoberfest. October 3-4, 2009, Saturday: noon – 10 p.m., Sunday noon – 6 p.m. Frederick Fairgrounds, East Patrick St., Frederick, Maryland. Young and old will enjoy this celebration. With scarecrow making, a hay bale maze, moonbounce, pumpkin decorating, log sawing contest, chicken dance, polka contest, great food and beer there is something for everyone. FREE ADMISSION if you wear an authentic Dirndl or Lederhosen to Frederick’s Oktoberfest. Partial dress, German t-shirts, and/or hats do not qualify for free admission. Admission: $5, Children ages 11 and under are free.

  • Germantown's Oktoberfest. October 3, 2009, 11 a.m. to dark. Ridge Road Recreation Park. www.germantownoktoberfest.org. This is the 27thanniversary of the Germantown festival and it is probably one of the best in the area. Plenty of beer, fireworks (although not done together), dancing, live music, food and fun for the whole family. Admission is free.

  • Mid-Atlantic Oktoberfest. Capitol City Brewing Co. Village at Shirlington. October 3, 2009, noon to 7 p.m. 703-578-3888. http://www.capcitybrew.com/oktoberfest09.php. This day long celebration at allows Capitol City Brewing Co. to highlight some of their best German beer. Cost is $25.

  • Bloktoberfest at RFK Stadium. DATE 2009 TBD. RFK Stadium. Washington. DC. http://www.blocktoberfest.com/. This is a big event with lots of rides, food, fun and music for the whole family.
