Washington, DC is filled with remembrance events and activities that honor our men and women who died while serving in the United States arm services, as well as an opportunity to thank those currently serving in the military. Consider taking a walking tour of the memorials and monuments that honor and celebrate Americas heroes on this day of remembrance. This gesture will give their significance a whole new meaning.
GI Film Festival

The GI Film Festival(GIFF) presents and screens films that honor the heroic stories of the American Armed Forces. In addition to some wonderful films about our men and women in service there are opportunities to participate in panel discussions with soldiers, filmmakers, authors and journalists.
PBS National Memorial Day Concert

PBS Hosts a Free Concert. The concert is heldo on the West Lawn of the US Capitol every year and features some of the most awe-inspiring tributes to our men and women in uniform. The event is co-hosted for the third year by Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna. Some of the performers include Gladys Knight , Sarah Brightman, Denis Leary, and General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.).
National Memorial Day Parade
Monday, May 26, 2008, beginning at 2 p.m.
The National Memorial Day Parade, presented by the American Veterans Center, is held annually in Washington DC. The parade features hundreds of veterans, active service men and women and marching bands. and Veterans units from all 50 states, will begin at 5th and Constitution Avenue. The National Memorial Day Parade will step off at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 7th Streets, NW. It will proceed west down Constitution, past the White House, ending at 17th Street.

The Navy Memorial gets a visit from Rolling Thunder as they participate in a wreath-laying ceremony to honor the US men and women in service.

This is an annual ceremony that features the Presentation of Colors and wreath-laying ceremony.
