How to Get Tickets for the 2009 Presidential Inauguration

From , former About.com Guide

The swearing-in ceremony will take place on January 20, 2009. Tickets to the swearing-in ceremony are free, but you need to contact your Congressional representative or U.S. Senator to request them. Beware of any website that tries to sell you tickets. They can’t—they don’t have them to sell. You can only get tickets as mentioned above and that is through your US Senator or Congressional representative. While you should contact your Senator or House member as soon as possible, tickets won’t be distributed until the week before the inauguration and they must be picked-up in person.

Difficulty: Hard
Time Required: Varies

Here's How:

  1. Contact your Congressional Representative or U.S. Senator. Websites that claim to have tickets for sale for the event, do not.
  2. Wait.
  3. If you are selected to receive a ticket you will have to pick them up in person.

Tips:

  1. If you don't get tickets for the Inauguration, you can still attend the parade which does not require a ticket.
  2. Book your hotel soon. Hotels are increasing their prices during this special week and many are already reporting being fully booked.
