Fair Season in the DC metro area is upon us; let the pie eating contests begin. The Washington, DC metro area has plenty of county fairs to delight young and old. Ferris wheels, monster truck rallies, corn dogs, funnel cake, carnival rides, and livestock are just some of the amusement to be had. The first fair to kick the season off is the Loudoun County Fair which begins on July 26, 2009 and runs through August 1, 2009.
Below is a complete list of the fairs, listed by date, that will be in the area:
- Loundoun County Fair. July 26,2009-August 1, 2009. Loudoun County Fairgrounds, 17558 Dry Mill Rd, Leesburg, VA. 703-777-3835. The Great Outhouse Race, a demolition derby, professional bull riding and barrel racing are all on tap. A weekly pass will cost $25 per adult; an adult daily pass is $10. A weekly pass for a child, ages 6-12 is $10, daily will run you $5.Only cash will be accepted at the gate.
- Fairfax 4-H Fair and Frying Pan Park Farm Show. August 1-2, 2009, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Frying Pan Park, 2709 W. Ox Rd., Herndon, VA. 703-324-5203. From hayrides to cow milking to sheep sheering and blacksmith demonstrations, young children will enjoy this event where the barn yard animals take center stage. Admission is free, parking is $5.
- Howard County Fair. August 8-15, 2009. Howard County Fairgrounds, 2210 Fairgrounds Rd., West Friendship, MD. 410-442-1022. Pig races, magicians, pony shows, yummy foods the Baltimore's Marching Raven Band, and a pie eating are some of the highlights fair goers will enjoy. Admission is $5.
- Montgomery County Fair. August 14, 22, 2009. Montgomery County Fairgrounds, 500 Perry Pkwy, Gaithersburg, MD. 301-926-3100. What you can enjoy: the Battle of the Beast Rodeo, Monster Truck Madness, Demolition Derby, a larger variety of commercial and craft exhibits, a milking parlor and birthing center, new concessions and new Moovies in Community Square. Admission is $8 per an adult and $3 for children 2-7. Parking is $5. An all day carnival ride wrist band is $25.
- Prince William County Fair. August 24-33, 3009. Prince William County Fairgrounds, Route 234, Mansass, VA. 703-368-0713. Admission is $5 per adult and $4 per child (3-6). Rabbits, a great grandparents essay contest, dog pet show, blue grass bands and Elvis impersonators are some of the highlights.
- Arlington County Fair. August 19-23, 2009. Thomas Jefferson Community Center, 3501 S. Second Street, Arlington, VA. 703-920-4556. VH-1's Ambre Lake will be the celebrity guest, petting zoo, outdoor movies, amusement and pony rides will delight fair goers. Admission is free.
- Prince George's County Fair. September 10-13, 2009. Prince George's Equestrian Center and Showplace Arena, Water Street, Upper Marlboro, MD. 301-952-0270. A beautiful baby contest, car show, chain saw artist, marionettes and carnival rides are just some of the fun waiting for you. Admission is $6 for adults 12 and up; $5 for kids 6 to 11; children 5 and under are free.
- Anne Arundel County Fair. September 16-20, 2009. Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds, 1450 Generals Highway, Crownsville, MD. 410-923-3400. A Fair Queen, a demolition derby, and an Arundel idol are just some of the events that set this fair a part from others. Admission is $5 for 16 years and older; $2 for 6 to 15 year olds; and five years old and younger is free.
- The 2009 Great Frederick County Fair. September 18-26, 2009. Frederick Fairgrounds, 797 E. Patrick St., Frederick, MD. 301-663-5895. Beekeepers, carnival rides, cattle and so much wraps up fair season and will leave you longing for summer. Admission is free September 18; Sept. 19-26, Adults 11 years and up $5.
