FotoWeek DC 2009 celebrates the power of photography through inspirational and riveting international exhibitions, thought provoking lectures and workshops, and the chance to have your own portfolio critiqued by experts. This is the second year this week-long photo festival will grace DC.
From November 7th - 14th see photos throughout Washington, DC. From museums and institutions to embassies, cutting edge galleries, and even public schools, there are opportunities throughout the District to see some compelling photography that reaffirms the old saying: “A picture is worth a thousand words.”
FotoWeek DC Highlights
- Night Gallery DC Experience large-scale projections of finalists’ work from the FotoWeek DC Awards competition and of selected images from FotoWeek DC special exhibitions on the facade of FotoWeek Central 1 (3338 M Street NW). Projections will also be featured on select buildings in Rosslyn (Nov 608) and Crystal City (Nov 8-10). Begins at Dusk and is free and open to the public.
- When Sights & Sounds Converge: Storytelling in the Digital World On November 9, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Head over to National Geographic (1600 M Street, NW) and join NPR's Jacki Lyden as she hosts a panel discussion and presentation about the evolution of storytelling in sights and sounds. Participants include Keith Jenkins, NPR's multimedia director; Chris Johns, editor in chief of National Geographic; Andrea Hsu, producer for All Things Considered; and a National Geographic photographer -- talk about how they've adapted in the ever-changing digital world. - NightVisions (3338 M Street, NW). Saturday, November 7, 2009 beginning at 6:00 p.m. - Sunday, November 8, 2009 6:00 a.m. Join fellow photographers in an all night spontaneous adrenaline caffeine induced creation of images. The premise is simple. Create a photographic image between the hours of 6:00 p.m., Saturday, November 7th and 6:00 a.m., Sunday, November 8th. Photographers should shoot digitally and personally deliver the photos to FotoweekDC Central 1 at 3338 M Street NW in Georgetown. This event is free and open to the public.
