The National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC is filled with masterpieces from the 13th to the 21st Centuries. The collection of paintings, sculptures, and drawings were created by some of the most famous artisits in history, including Botticelli, Degas, Monet, Cezzane, Renoir, da Vinci, Fragonard, and Raphael to name a few. In the East Building, visitors can see modern art by such artists as Matisse, Picasso, Pollock and Calder. Located on the National Mall it is one of DC's most visited galleries.
There are free docent led tours offered every day that will provide visitors with an overview of the collection. Check with the front desk at the Gallery to find out the schedule or consider taking an audio recorded, self-guided tour for $5. And don't forget to check-out the Sculpture Garden. The sculptures are beautiful; the fountain offers tranquility; and if you have small children they will love the open space.
