Constitution Gardens in Washington, DC

Constitution Gardens is often referred to as an “oasis” amid a busy city and is a living tribute freedom. Dedicated in 1976, Constitution Gardens serves as a memorial to the men who signed their John Hancock to the US Constitution. The memorial is an island in the middle of an artificial lake. There are stones bearing the names and signatures of the fifty-six men who signed the Declaration of Independence.

Located in West Potomac Park, near the intersection of Constitution Avenue and 17th Street, NW, along the northern edge of the National Mall, the area provides several opportunities for viewing the city skyline surrounding the U.S. Capitol building and the Washington Monument. With its many benches and trees, it offers a visitors a perfect spot to picnic.

Constitution Gardens is open 24 hours a day. Rangers for this area may be found at the nearby Vietnam Veterans Memorial between the hours of 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 P.M. daily.
