Mount Vernon, home of George Washington, is a sight that most all visitors to Washington, DC hope to see. But getting there can be part of the fun, especially if you like to ride a bike.

The Mount Vernon Trail (which is paved) is a scenic ride that offers riders views of historic DC landmarks, a presidential memorial, places to stop and picnic, a trip through historic Old Town Alexandria and of course, a presidential home to tour. It's approximately 36 miles round trip.

Visitors can rent multi-speed bikes at Thompson Boat Center, (202) 333-9543, for $25 per day or at Bike and Roll, (202) 842-2453 for $35 a day.

Don't forget to rent a helmet, bring some water, sunscreen, and some healthy snacks.
