The journey begins at Theodore Roosevelt Island. Bikes can’t actually be ridden on the island, but there are racks to lock them up so you can explore the walking trails and see the incredible memorial dedicated to old Teddy—The United State’s 26th president. In the summer months mosquitoes can be annoying so don’t forget the repellant and bring along a water bottle.
After you’ve learned all about Roosevelt’s contributions to conservation, use the rest rooms if need be and then hop back on your bike and start pedaling. Follow the path headed towards DC.
