Valentine’s Day is a great reason to indulge with some sumptuous chocolates and can be a budget-conscious Casanova’s best friend. The Washington, DC area has some fantastic chocolate shops where artisans are whipping up creations that scream “I love you.” Here are some of the most popular:

Kingsbury Chocolates. 1017 King Street, Alexandria, Virginia 703-548-2800, 877-704-4179. This small out of the way chocolate shop has some amazing truffles. One of the best is the Chipotle Cinnamon, the firey pepper against the sweet chocolate creates the perfect combination for those who like it hot.

The Cacao Tree. www.thecacaotree.com. Sandra Escobar is behind the wonderful and exotic flavors of handmade chocolates at The Cacao Tree. She even has a chocolate of the month club for which you can sign-up your sweetie. Some of the favorite truffles that Escobar creates include the Mole Truffle which is made with Sandra's crowd pleasing mole recipe, savory and sweet with a tingle of spice, and the Dulce de Leche made with rich dulce de leche caramel infused with Mexican vanilla liqueur called Rompope.

Biagio Fine Chocolates. 1904 18th St. NW, Washington, DC 20009, 202-328-1506. This is truly about the chocolate connoisseur where you will find high end chocolates that will thrill your Valentine.

Artisan Confections. 4815 Lee Hwy, Ste B, Arlington, VA 22207, 703-239-0616. www.artisanconfections.com. These chocolates are as pretty as they are sweet to the palate. The Chocolate-Covered Tahitian Vanilla Bean Marshmallows are a favorite among young and old as is the Salted Butter Caramel. These are available at their shop in Arlington or online. You can also take a class for $65 and learn how the chocolates are made—sweet.

Godiva in Georgetown. 3242 M St NW (between N Potomac St & N Wisconsin Ave), Washington, DC 20007, 202-333-5864. Godiva is wonderful standby, tried and true these chocolates will please anyone.
