The cupcakes are just what you want a cupcake to be--a moist cake with lovely frosting that is sweet, but not too sweet. And the wonderful flavors that these two sisters concoct will lead you back to the line in an effort to try every flavor.
The cupcakes are lovely to look at, decorated with beautiful and soft colors, even a tiny heart or flower on some, but they are even better to eat. These are cupcakes with attitude. The key lime cupcake is refreshing, the red velvet is scrumptious, and the incredbly wonderful vanilla and chocolate is the perfect accoutrement to a cup of coffee or hot tea.
And this swanky cupcakery has a philosophy to match its cake's well-earned swagger. "We believe baking is an art. We believe everyday pleasures, like a cupcake, can still be chic," said Sophie LaMontagne and Katherine Kallinis. "Our cupcakes are made with gourmet ingredients such as Valrhona Chocolate to Madagascar Vanilla – these aren't your mother's cupcakes."
At $2.75 a cake, these gourmet treats are a bargain and with as many cupcakes as Kallinis and LaMontagne sell each day, the people of DC agree. There are days when the line can be a bit long, but trust me, this is one stop that every visitor to DC will want to make.
Disclaimer: Many reviewers are compensated with free meals and desserts when they review a venue. In the case of Georgetown Cupcake, I was not, but I wish I had been because I could have easily eaten another half dozen.
