Kramerbooks & Afterwords Grille and Café is one of Washington, DCs tucked away treasures. Visitors to the District will appreciate the large selection of fiction, the late hours, the large portions of reasonably priced and yummy food, and the lively atmosphere.
Serving lattes to DCs literati since 1976, Kramerbooks & Afterwords Grille and Café is located just above one of DCs famous neighborhoods known as Dupont Circle. In addition to the bookstore and the grille and café, Kramerbooks offers visitors a full-service bar and live entertainment Wednesday through Saturday Night.
Kramerbooks is really a Washington, DC institution that is popular with the locals and not the typical tourist place that everyone else will be hitting. It is always packed, the seats are close together and it can be a little noisy. Still, with a diverse menu with everything from soup, salad, sandwiches, lamb chops and filet mignon, there is something for everyone. The Butternut Squash Ravioli ($14.50)which is roasted butternut squash & goat cheese ravioli, finished with browned butter, fresh basil, sundried tomato, parmesan, lemon & pine nuts is a an absolute favorite.
This is also a great place to check your email for free at the bar or stop in and just grab some coffee and dessert. The Dysfunctional Family sundae-- vanilla ice cream, amaretto-soaked chocolate brownie hot fudge, nuts & whipped cream topped with raspberry puree is very popular and very decadent. The Apple Crumb Pie and the Kahula Walnut Pie served a la mode, are also great picks.
Bottom line: Visitors to Washington, DC will love Kramerbooks & Afterwords Grille & Café.
