The wonderful thing about Washington, DC is that it is an affordable destination for almost every budget. There are of course plenty of luxury and mid-priced hotels, but there are also several accommodations that wont break the bank. Consider staying at a local hostel or at a smaller privately owned hotel or bed and breakfast. To follow are five options for accommodations that will help keep you on your travel budget:

This hostel is centrally located so you wont have a long walk to the sites and it is close to the Metro Center metro. You cant beat the price either. A single-sex or co-ed dorm bed will cost just $24 and $35 a night if you're a Hostelling International member; and if you arent a member you can tack on an additional $3 a night. for non-members pay. The hostel offers free guided tours each week as well. This is a popular option, so book your reservation for this option well in advance of your travels.

At $22 per night for a dorm bed this is a great option for the budget traveler. This hostel is located near the Takoma Metro stop. They have high speed Internet access and you have access to the kitchen to buy and prepare your own food. There is also a game room and satellite TV. And they also have lockers should you need one.

Dupont Circle is lots fun and the beautiful Victorian homes have a nice cache about them. Some have even been turned into bed and breakfast. The American Guest House is one such B&B. Depending on your travel dates you can get a room for as little as $100 a night, not including taxes. This B&B is located near the Dupont Metro stop.

Georgetown Suites was designed for the business traveler, but these suites work well for families. These accommodations have living rooms, eating areas and fully equipped kitchens. They have co-operated laundry machines, as well as dry clean service. The closest metro would be Foggy Bottom and then a 10-15 minute walk from there.
- Vactionrentals.com is a great option for families. Renting a home away from home, can be both cheaper per day and more comfortable when traveling with children as well.
